Bronson Man Pleads Guilty In High Speed Chase
Wednesday, May 1, 2024

COLDWATER – The suspect in a high speed chase from earlier this year has entered into a plea agreement.

Branch County Circuit Court on line records show that 50 year old Scott Calloway of Bronson plead guilty to a charge of second degree fleeing from a police officer. With that plea, the Branch County Prosecutor’s Office dismissed charges of receiving and concealing a motor vehicle; possession of methamphetamine; along with assaulting, resisting and obstructing a police officer.

Calloway was driving a 2016 Toyota Tacoma that was reported stolen January 26 from Clinton County, Michigan, and spotted in Coldwater through the City’s new Automated License Plate Reader System. A Branch County Sheriff’s Deputy tried to stop the vehicle at Chicago Road and Michigan Avenue, but Calloway drove away with speeds going over 100 MPH. The chase ended in a field near Garfield and Nash Roads.

The Deputy says objects were thrown out of the window of the suspect vehicle.

Calloway tried to run away, but was apprehended. Deputies say while searching the vehicle, they found what appeared to be meth inside of a flashlight

Court documents show that Calloway was also convicted in March 2017 of third degree fleeing and eluding in Branch County Circuit Court.

Calloway is scheduled to be sentenced on June 17.
