BETHEL TOWNSHIP, MI – One person has died and several others are critically injured following a crash involving an SUV and a pick-up truck.
The fatal accident occurred near Orland, north of the Indiana-Michigan state line. It happened in Branch County at 5:35 PM Friday evening at the intersection of Gilead Lake Road and Sikorski Road.
Michigan State Police say the driver of the SUV was traveling east bound on Sikorski Road when the vehicle failed to hault the intersection’s stop sign. The SUV struck a pickup truck traveling southbound on Gilead Lake Road, causing both vehicles to leave the roadway into the east side ditch.
The lone passenger in the pick-up truck was fatally injured in the crash.
Reports indicate the drivers of both vehicles were transported to Bronson Hospital of Kalamazoo in critical condition. Two passengers were transported to ProMedica Hospital of Coldwater where they were reportedly treated for their injuries and released.
Authorities have not released the names of those involved in the crash.
Investigators DO NOT believe alcohol is a factor in the crash; however, the incident remains under investigation.
