(ANGOLA) - The Trine University softball team will host a regional for the 2025 NCAA Division III Softball Championship beginning on Thursday, May 15. In addition to hosting, the Thunder will serve as the top seed of the regional. They enter the tournament as the fifth best team in the country according to the NCAA National Power Index (NPI) which was used to select at-large berths to the tournament. Trine enters the tournament with a 36-5 record. They captured their sixth-straight and 14th overall Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association regular season title with an undefeated 16-0 record. They followed up by winning back to secure the automatic berth with the MIAA Tournament Title. The team's first opponent will be University of Pitt.-Greensburg, who are making their first trip to the NCAA tournament after winning their first Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference tournament and posting their best finish in the regular season. They enter the tournament with a 21-17 overall record having gone 10-6 in AMCC play. Their lone common opponent with Trine is Adrian College who defeated the Bobcats 8-0 during spring break. The other opening day matchup will feature Baldwin Wallace University and the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.
