(LANSING) – Local and State police agencies in Michigan are stepping up their speed enforcement efforts during the month of July.
This is being done to held keep reckless behavior and speeders under control.
Data indicates that speed enforcement and public education efforts are yielding positive results in Michigan. To help further encourage safer driving this summer, the Michigan State Police, along with officers from city and county police departments will be conducting dedicated speed enforcement all during July.
In 2023, data from the Michigan Office Of Highway Safety Planning shows the State recorded 21,357 speed involved crashes, which is a 20% decrease from 26.700 speed involved crashes that were reported in 2022. It’s also a 32% decrease from 2019 where 31,421 crashes were reported.
This campaign is supported with Federal traffic safety funds, which is provided by the United States Department of Transportation and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. It is being administered by the Michigan Office of Highway Safety Planning.
