(DEKALB COUNTY) - One person was taken to the hospital following a two-vehicle crash Thursday afternoon at a rural DeKalb County intersection.
The DeKalb County Sheriff's Office says the crash happened around 5:15 p.m. Thursday at the intersection of County Road 72 and County Road 63.
Deputies say 23-year-old Mahlon Schmucker of Harlan was driving a 2013 Nissan Maxima north on Rupert Road approaching the intersection when he failed to stop at a stop sign.
Authorities say Schmucker's vehicle struck a 2006 Ford Explorer driven by 45-year-old Kevin Evanoff of Butler, who was traveling east on County Road 72.
After the collision, the Explorer crossed the westbound lane, went off the north side of the road, and struck a wooden privacy fence before continuing into an aluminum outbuilding at the northeast corner of the intersection. Evanoff complained of leg pain and was taken by Parkview EMS to Parkview Regional Medical Center. Schmucker reported no injuries.
Both vehicles were considered totaled and were towed from the scene.
The DeKalb County Sheriff's Office was assisted by the Indiana Department of Natural Resources, the Spencerville Fire Department, Parkview EMS, Brent's Towing and DeKalb County Central Communication
