(INDIANAPOLIS) - A bill introduced ahead of the 2026 legislative session would require Indiana schools to display the text of the Ten Commandments in every classroom and library.

House Bill 1086 would require school corporations to place a durable poster or framed image showing the Ten Commandments in each school library and classroom. The bill is authored by State Rep. Michelle Davis of District 58 and co-authored by three other House Republicans.

The proposal is scheduled for its first reading on January 5, when the Indiana General Assembly convenes, and will be referred to the House Committee on Education.

The filing follows recent legal action by the governor and attorney general seeking to lift an injunction blocking a Ten Commandments monument at the Indiana Statehouse.

If House Bill 1086 is passed and signed into law, the requirement would take effect July 1, 2026.
