(AUBURN) - The Auburn Common Council closed out its final meeting of 2025 by approving several measures focused on growth, infrastructure, and long-term planning. Council members unanimously approved the purchase of nearly three acres on the city's south side for approximately $128,000. City leaders say the land will be used to build a secondary access road for businesses south of Auburn Drive, designed to handle heavy truck traffic. Construction could begin as early as 2027, depending on funding. In a rare move, the council also fast-tracked an ordinance creating a dedicated maintenance fund for Auburn's new veterans memorial. Nearly $4,000 in unused 2025 budget funds will be set aside for long-term upkeep, with the fund also open to future donations from residents and businesses.

The council also approved ordinances annexing new land into the city and setting spending plans for Auburn's electric, water, wastewater, and essential services departments through 2026. Before adjourning, local firefighters thanked city leaders for their continued cooperation on pay and benefits.

City officials say the actions taken help position Auburn for future growth and major projects ahead.
