(MOTTVILLE TOWNSHIP, MI) - An Indiana man is in jail after deputies say he staged his own kidnapping and assault.
The St. Joseph County Sheriff's Office arrested the 35-year-old Thursday in Mottville Township. Investigators say the man faked the incident in an attempt to contact someone who has a personal protection order against him. According to the Sheriff's Office, the man used a telecommunications device to reach the protected individual, prompting concerns for safety. That person then reported what was believed to be a kidnapping and assault.
Deputies spent several days investigating before locating the man and determining the entire story had been made up. The suspect is now facing charges of aggravated stalking and violating a personal protection order. His name has not been released.
