ANGOLA, Ind. (WLKI)- Trine University's Doctor of Occupational Therapy program has received Preaccreditation Status from the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education.
The accrediting council reviewed the program during its August meeting and identified no areas of concern, according to the university.
Trine said the council recognized several strengths in its review, including the program's curriculum design, faculty expertise, facilities, clinical education model, fieldwork partnerships, community engagement and reputation.
The Doctor of Occupational Therapy program launched in 2025 through Trine's Brooks College of Health Professions.
The curriculum includes five integrated clinical experiences intended to give students exposure to occupational therapy practice before they begin a 24-week full-time fieldwork rotation. The program also includes interdisciplinary learning, laboratory experiences and interactive instruction.
Program Director Jamesdean Visley said the review reflects the work that went into preparing the program and developing its curriculum, faculty, facilities and clinical partnerships.
The program will next undergo an initial on-site evaluation as it continues through the accreditation process.
Trine said graduates will not be eligible to take the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy examination until the program receives full accreditation. Students who pass that exam may then seek licensure to practice, which is required by all states.
Applicants must have a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution and at least a 3.0 cumulative grade-point average. Trine also offers direct-entry pathways from undergraduate programs on its Angola campus.
