PUTNAM COUNTY (WLKI) - Indiana State Police say a commercial vehicle inspection on Interstate 70 led to the seizure of an estimated $3.8 million worth of cocaine.
An Indiana State Police Criminal Interdiction Unit stopped a commercial motor vehicle Sunday while it was traveling eastbound on I-70 in Putnam County.
The driver, identified as Harpreet Singh of Greenwood, told troopers he was transporting an empty trailer from Memphis, Tennessee, to Indianapolis.
State police say the driver was operating below industry standards, and the vehicle was impounded.
During the enforcement action, troopers found several duffle bags containing 277 pounds, or 126 kilograms, of suspected cocaine.
Singh was arrested and taken to the Putnam County Jail.
Indiana State Police say the estimated street value of the suspected cocaine is approximately $3.8 million.
The state police release did not list specific charges. Any charges filed are allegations, and Singh is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
