LAGRANGE, Ind. (WLKI)- The LaGrange County Community Foundation has opened applications for Cycle I of its 2026-2027 LIFE Grants Program.
According to the foundation, LIFE Grants support projects, programs and curricula that introduce educational opportunities to young people throughout LaGrange County. The application deadline for the first funding cycle is September 28.
The program's funding priorities include projects that support students' academic, social, emotional and physical development. Grants may also support activities that strengthen connections among young people and within the community.
Additional consideration will be given to creative educational programs that address local needs and achievable projects designed to benefit students over the long term.
Eligible applicants include nonprofit organizations, government agencies and public schools serving young people in LaGrange County. Funding will not be awarded to individuals or used for political activities or religious instruction.
Grant awards are typically around $500.
Applications will be reviewed by student members of LIFE, the foundation's youth philanthropy program. Members attend Lakeland, Westview or Prairie Heights high schools or are homeschooled. Students may join the program in ninth grade and continue participating through their senior year.
After reviewing the applications, LIFE members will submit their funding recommendations to the LaGrange County Community Foundation Board of Directors for final approval. Grant recipients are expected to be notified in December.
"LIFE Grants give our young leaders the opportunity to shape the future of their own communities," Scholarship and LIFE Program Manager Beth Retterbush said. "By putting decision-making in their hands, we're empowering them to create meaningful change and make a lasting impact on their peers."
