(STEUBEN COUNTY) - Steuben County Highway officials are warning drivers to expect delays, lane restrictions, road closures, and slow-moving maintenance operations throughout the week.
NIPSCO crews are relocating gas lines Monday through Thursday at County Road 100 North and County Road 200 West as part of the county's planned roundabout project. Traffic will be maintained by flaggers, but delays are expected in the area.
County Highway crews are also beginning the county's annual right-of-way mowing program through Friday. Officials say tractor mowers will be working along county roads, and drivers are asked to use caution when passing the slow-moving equipment.
Extensive grading and gravel work is also underway on county-maintained gravel roads. Highway officials are asking motorists to stay at least 500 feet behind county dump trucks performing the work.
Two roads are scheduled to close Wednesday and Thursday from 7:30 a.m. until 3 p.m. for culvert replacement projects:
- West Sycamore Beach Road between Lane 150 Crooked Lake and Lane 352 Crooked Lake
- County Road 600 East between County Road 150 North and County Road 200 North
Meanwhile, county road restriping work is also beginning this week as Airmarking crews repaint several county roads. Drivers are being warned to avoid driving on fresh paint and to follow directions from crews using "Wet Paint - Do Not Pass" vehicles and signs.
Roads scheduled for restriping include:
- County Road 150 West from Pleasant Lake to Angola
- County Road 500 South from State Road 327 to County Road 400 West
- County Road 425 West / 450 West from Orland Road to County Road 500 West
- County Road 400 West / Golden Lake Road from Ashley to Angola
Officials say the restriping work is expected to take approximately two weeks to complete.
