(FORT WAYNE) - The Indiana Air National Guard's 122nd Fighter Wing has completed its transition to F-16 aircraft at Baer Field.

The conversion marks a return to full combat certification and deployment readiness for the unit.

The process took about three years and included multiple inspections, along with a demonstration of full mission capability during a recent training exercise in Florida.

Officials say the conversion replaces the wing's previous A-10 aircraft with newer Block-40 F-16 Fighting Falcons.

Wing Commander Colonel Scott Boatright says the unit is now mission-ready and prepared to support operations at the state, national, and global level.

The change follows federal authorization passed in 2022, which set the transition from A-10s to F-16s in motion.
