(INDIANA) - Concerns are growing in rural Indiana over the use of drones, with residents reporting devices being used to track deer, fly over farms, and monitor private property.

According to reporting from the Indiana Capital Chronicle, some cases have led to criminal charges, including what authorities say may be the first prosecution under a state law banning the use of drones to track and hunt wildlife.

Lawmakers have also responded to complaints from farmers, passing a new law that will make it illegal to use drones to harass livestock or interfere with farm operations starting July 1.

Residents say the technology can be useful in agriculture, but concerns remain about privacy, safety, and enforcement.
