(LAFAYETTE) - Purdue University has announced the crew for a planned suborbital research mission that will send an all-Boilermaker team into space.

The mission, known as "Purdue 1," is being conducted in partnership with Virgin Galactic and will carry five crew members on a flight focused on scientific research.

University officials say the mission will include biomedical monitoring, with crew members wearing sensors to track how the human body responds to spaceflight. Additional experiments will study fluid behavior in microgravity, quantum technology, and in-space chip manufacturing.

The crew is made up of Purdue faculty, researchers and alumni, all selected to support the mission's scientific goals.

Training is now underway ahead of the planned launch, with officials saying the data collected could help support future space exploration efforts
