(ANGOLA) - Trine University students brought home top honors from the American Criminal Justice Association's national conference in Minnesota, including a first-place finish in upper division crime scene investigation.
The winning CSI team included:
- Silas Jones, an accounting major from Swayzee
- Braiden Wolfe, a mechanical engineering major from South Whitley
- Cole Anderson, a criminal justice major from Nashville, Michigan
The national conference was held March 8th through 13th in Bloomington, Minnesota.
The CSI event challenged teams to process a mock homicide scene based on a real case handled by the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office. Students had to identify and mark evidence, determine DNA collection priorities, complete a case report and prepare a crime scene sketch.
Trine students also placed:
- second in upper division firearms
- second individually in Cold Case testing
- third individually in Criminal Law testing
- second individually in physical agility
- third in the scholarship lip sync competition
Faculty advisor and Director of Campus Safety Stu Hamblen also earned third place in the professional firearms competition.
University leaders say the results highlight the strength of Trine's criminal justice program and the broad range of students competing successfully at the national level.
