(ANGOLA) - The Metropolitan School District of Steuben County has fired the bus driver involved in Monday's rollover crash after internal safety video showed her using a cellphone behind the wheel.
The district says its internal review of the April 6th crash on South County Road 300 East found that Jennie Hammond violated school corporation rules by using a cell phone while driving.
District officials say Hammond's employment was terminated Tuesday.
The crash happened Monday morning when the school bus overturned in rural Otsego Township.
Both Hammond and the lone student passenger were taken to Cameron Hospital, treated for pain and released the same day.
The district says it is cooperating fully with local law enforcement as the sheriff's office continues its investigation.
MSD says student safety remains its top obligation and that corrective action will be taken any time employees fail to meet that standard.
