(INDIANA) - Indiana State Police troopers made more than 72,000 traffic stops across the state during the first two months of 2026.

The Indiana State Police Enforcement Bureau reports troopers conducted 72,388 traffic stops between January 1 and February 28.

During that time, troopers issued 30,400 citations and more than 59,000 warnings. Officers also made 733 arrests for drunk driving.

Troopers made 3,234 criminal arrests related to traffic stops and another 2,087 non-traffic-related arrests.

Enforcement efforts also resulted in 2,088 seatbelt citations and nearly 850 distracted driving violations and warnings.

State Police investigated 3,083 crashes during the two-month period, including 473 crashes involving injuries and 16 fatal crashes.

Troopers also assisted 6,148 motorists with disabled vehicles, including flat tires, mechanical issues, vehicles stuck on the roadway, or drivers who ran out of fuel.

Indiana State Police say troopers will continue enforcement efforts using methods such as aviation patrols, motorcycle units, unmarked vehicles, and specialized patrol operations.

Officials say the goal is to reduce crashes, injuries, and fatalities on Indiana roadways.
