(INDIANAPOLIS) - Indiana State Police say their Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division is off to a busy start in 2026 with thousands of truck inspections and enforcement actions already completed.

From January 1 through February 14, troopers conducted 6,455 commercial vehicle inspections across the state.

As a result, 653 drivers and 752 vehicles were placed out of service for safety violations. Troopers also recorded 49 oversize violations and 278 overweight violations during that period.

The division is responsible for enforcing state and federal regulations on commercial vehicles, including safety inspections, compliance reviews, and ensuring carriers follow size, weight, and fuel tax laws. Troopers also assist with crash investigations and oversee Indiana's annual school bus inspection program.

In addition to enforcement work, troopers participated in the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance Human Trafficking Awareness Campaign in January. During that effort, they conducted seven public speaking events, six media interviews, shared 11 social media posts, distributed 1,007 educational materials to drivers, and completed 718 inspections.

Troopers also assisted local Indiana State Police districts during a late January winter storm, investigating 131 crashes and responding to 2,342 calls for service beyond their usual duties.

State police say the enforcement and outreach efforts are aimed at improving highway safety across Indiana.
