FORT WAYNE -- The Better Business Bureau Serving Northern Indiana has introduced a new scholarship program aimed at helping young workers launch careers in the skilled trades.
The BBB Trades Scholarship Program is designed to offset startup costs often faced by new tradespeople, including tools, safety equipment and work gear. The initiative pairs financial support with employment at BBB Accredited Businesses.
Program leaders say the effort is intended to strengthen the region's workforce while helping students succeed in essential hands-on careers.
To qualify, applicants must be 23 or younger, live within BBB's 23-county service area, and have been employed in a trade by a BBB Accredited Business for 12 months or less. Eligible fields include construction trades such as plumbing, electrical work, roofing and concrete, as well as welding, landscaping, painting, HVAC, auto repair, machinery and tool-and-die work, pest control and tree removal. Other trades may be considered individually.
Applicants must submit materials by April 26 explaining why they chose their trade. Submission does not guarantee selection.
BBB officials say the program reflects a broader mission to promote ethical business practices while addressing demand for skilled workers across Northern Indiana.
Businesses interested in participating or individuals seeking more information can contact BBB Vice President of Revenue Steve Stepp at steve@northernindiana.bbb.org or 260-969-9552.
