(GARRETT) - Terry Yarde of Garrett has announced he is running as a Republican for the West District seat on the DeKalb County Board of Commissioners in the 2026 election.

In a news release announcing his candidacy, Yarde pointed to a long history of local public service and community involvement, along with a background in agriculture and small business ownership.

Yarde has served in several roles across the county, including on the DeKalb County Fair Board, the DeKalb County 4-H Council and the Garrett School Board. He has also been active as a youth sports coach and as coach of the Garrett girls varsity soccer team.

He currently serves on the Garrett-Keyser-Butler Building Corporation Committee, where he is involved in planning for the construction of a new elementary school.

Along with farming and raising cattle, Yarde is a co-owner of Integrity Meats in Churubusco, a family-owned butcher shop that specializes in locally raised meats.

Yarde and his wife, Andrea, have two children, Dr. Kyle Yarde and Dr. Lindsey Koble, and four grandchildren. Both of their children own businesses in Auburn, and Yarde said having grandchildren growing up in Garrett has reinforced for him the importance of supporting strong, thriving communities throughout DeKalb County.
