(AUBURN) - The DeKalb County Election Board will discuss whether to drop the Hamilton vote center during a public meeting Thursday, according to The Star. DeKalb County Clerk Dana Hedrick says state law only requires three vote centers based on DeKalb County's voter count, but the county currently operates nine. The Hamilton site has the lowest turnout, with just 299 voters in the 2024 general election, and costs more than three dollars per vote to operate.

By comparison, Auburn's First United Methodist Church served more than 1,500 voters at a fraction of the cost. Hedrick also cited ongoing staffing challenges at the Hamilton location.

No vote will be taken Thursday. If the board moves forward, changes would be considered at a February meeting. The discussion starts at 1 p.m. at the DeKalb County Courthouse and is open to the public.
