Angola sophomore Ella Sears qualified for state in the 50-yard freestyle in the Elkhart Sectional by swimming faster than the state standard.
According to a Tweet from local Sports Journalist Ken Fillmore, "Sears is the first Hornet girl to make state in the pool since Alayna Geiger did it in 2002, when she was fifth in the 100 breaststroke."
State Finals will be held at the Indiana University Natatorium on IUPUI’s campus.
Sears was the lone girl from the area to qualify.
