(COLDWATER) – A man has been sentenced in an over two year old incident.
Branch County Circuit Court officials say 34 year old Jeffery Elliott was sentenced to serve between 14 and 24 months, after he plead guilty to a charge of assaulting, resisting or obstructing a police officer. In exchange for the plea, the Branch County Prosecutor's Office agreed to dismiss charges of assault with a dangerous weapon, and a second count of assaulting, resisting or obstructing a police officer.
Court officials say Elliott was also given credit for 289 days already served.
Michigan State Police along with the Branch County Sheriff’s Department tried to arrest Elliott on January 7, 2020 at a Kinderhook Township residence on outstanding warrants out of St. Joseph County. Elliott resisted and obstructed the officers. He tried to drive away, and went through a garage door, plus hit a vehicle before he was stopped and arrested.
