Union City Man Arrested On Multiple Charges
UNION CITY, MI – A Union City, Michigan man was arrested on Wednesday on multiple charges including firearms possession and resisting arrest.
Brett Brooks, 48, of Union City, was arrested when Union City Police officers stopped his motorcycle for not having a license plate.
Officers had to exceed speeds of 100 mph to catch up to stop Brooks.
According to the Branch County Sherriff's Office, "A probable cause affidavit states officers discovered a loaded handgun, brass knuckles, ammunition and methamphetamine.
Prosecutors filed a habitual offender fourth offense notice in addition to two counts of resisting a police office. They also filed charges of meth possession, carrying a concealed weapon, being a felon in possession of a weapon, being a felon in possession of ammunition, being in possession of a dangerous weapon and fourth degree fleeing from an officer and felony firearm.
Court records show the criminal record for Brooks goes back to 1996. He has been convicted three times for felony assault with a dangerous weapon. Brooks has also been convicted for breaking and entering, fleeing from a police officer and meth possession.
Bond during his arraignment was set at $50,000 with a probable cause hearing scheduled for June 1 and a preliminary exam on June 8."
