Standoff In Mendon Ends With Arrest
Tuesday, September 20, 2022

MENDON, MI - A standoff in Mendon ended early Sunday morning with the arrest of a man, who police say was also involved in a crash last weekend in Three Rivers.

St. Joseph County Sheriff Mark Lillywhite says his department was sent to a house in the 200 block of Lane Avenue near Mendon Elementary School, around 7 PM Saturday to investigate an alleged domestic assault. Deputies went into the house to talk to the possible suspect, identified as Terrell Reese. However, officers noticed Reese fidgeting with a safe and they also saw bullets on the floor.
When deputies left the house, they reportedly heard shots fired. No one was injured.

Lillywhite says his department set up a perimeter around the house along with the Three Rivers, Sturgis, White Pigeon and Colon Police Departments and the Michigan State Police.

Just before midnight, Lillywhite says officers shot tear gas into the house, and Reese was taken into custody a short time later. Reese was being sought by officers after he was involved in an incident in the early morning hours of September 10, when a car crashed into a building in downtown Three Rivers that housed PinUp Salon.

Reese, who was injured in the crash, was taken to Sturgis Hospital by Life Care Ambulance to be treated. He was then taken to the St. Joseph County Jail.
