Tuesday, June 21, 2022

STURGIS - The Sturgis community came together to offer prayers for two teenagers hurt in a multiple vehicle crash.

According to WWMT, a prayer vigil was held Sunday evening outside Sturgis High School for Fekile Lind and Jillian Romanyk. They were two of the four people who were injured in a crash at U.S. 12 and Burr Oak Road Friday afternoon.

The St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Department says the pick up Lind and Romanyk were in was heading west on U.S. 12 just after 4 PM and crossed the center line, striking an SUV, driven by 20 year old Nayeli Delapaz-Arroyo. The pick up continued going west, and struck a van head on, driven by 20 year old Juan Nino-Ramirez.

The pick up Lind and Romanyk were in became disabled and stopped in the roadway, and was then struck by a second pick up, which was heading east.

Lind, Romanyk and Ramirez were all flown to a Kalamazoo hospital. Organizers of the prayer vigil say both Lind and Romanyk are paralyzed. No update has been given on Ramirez. A passenger in the Ramirez van was taken to Sturgis Hospital with minor injuries.

Those who attended the vigil signed posters for the teens, which will be taken to their hospital rooms.

Go Fund Me pages have been set up for Lind and Romanyk.
