(COLDWATER) - The Coldwater City Council has approved new body cameras and in-car video systems for the Coldwater Police Department.

Council members unanimously signed off on the upgrade Monday night, clearing the way for CPD to replace its current camera equipment under a new five-year contract. The department originally planned to replace body cameras first, with squad car cameras to follow in 2026, but the approved plan covers both.

Police officials say the cost matches earlier projections and includes video storage through Motorola, a service the department already uses. The upgrade will also put Coldwater police on the same video system as the Branch County Sheriff's Department and Michigan State Police, making it easier to share footage during investigations.

City leaders say the move improves transparency, efficiency, and coordination between local and state law enforcement agencies.
