(ANGOLA) - A major grant is set to transform Lake James Christian Camp and Retreat Center near Angola. The camp has received one million dollars from Lilly Endowment to expand its facilities and serve more campers year-round. The funding will help build the first of four new sleeping lodges, boosting winter housing capacity.
Right now, the camp can host about 400 campers in the summer, but fewer than 200 in the winter. The new two-story lodge will sleep 64 campers, eventually increasing winter capacity to more than 350 beds.
Construction is expected to be complete by the camp's 100th anniversary in 2029. Plans also include purchasing nearby property and relocating maintenance operations away from main walkways to improve safety and the camper experience.
Camp leaders say the investment supports their mission of creating meaningful spaces for connection, reflection, and spiritual growth.
