ANGOLA, Ind. (WLKI)- Jeremy Goossens, Trine University's director of esports and industry innovation, has been named Director of the Season by ECAC Esports for the spring 2026 season.

ECAC Esports announced the recognition as part of its annual Coach of the Season and Director of the Season honors. The collegiate esports league includes teams from across North America and recognizes leaders based on their programs' performance during the fall and spring Division I seasons.

Goossens leads Trine's growing esports program, which is ranked among the 10 largest programs competing in the ECAC. The league includes 441 total programs.

Trine has established itself as a successful competitor in collegiate esports, earning six national championships. The university competes in several game titles and continues to expand opportunities for students interested in competitive gaming, technology and innovation.

During the spring season, Trine's Overwatch team qualified for the first ECAC National Founders Invitational. The event was held in May in San Antonio, Texas.

Qualification for the invitational was based on cumulative performance across the fall and spring Division I seasons. The top four teams in each title earned invitations to compete.

Trine student Jonah Kyle, a computer science and information technology major from Valparaiso, Indiana, was also recognized during the event. Kyle received the Forge Scholastic Esports Championship 2026 Uncommon Player Award.

ECAC Esports operates two competitive seasons each year, one in the fall and one in the spring. Each season includes a seven-week regular season, followed by three or four weeks of playoffs.

Depending on the game title, teams compete in either a round-robin or Swiss-style format during the regular season.

Goossens' recognition highlights the continued growth of Trine's esports program and its standing among collegiate teams throughout North America.
