BUTLER, Ind. (WLKI) - Firefighters from several departments responded to an industrial fire at Paragon Steel near Butler late Thursday night.
According to The Herald Republican, the Butler/Wilmington Fire Territory was dispatched at approximately 11:28 p.m. to the facility in the 4200 block of County Road 61.
The initial report indicated that a machine and industrial pit were on fire.
Because of the nature of the incident, the DeKalb County Central Communications Center immediately activated an industrial mutual-aid alarm.
Firefighters arrived to find heavy smoke coming from the large industrial facility.
Employees at the site told emergency responders that the machine and pit were heavily involved in flames.
Additional fire departments arrived shortly afterward and helped stretch hose lines into the building.
Crews quickly extinguished the visible flames and applied foam concentrate to assist with suppression.
The fire was then brought under control.
Several agencies remained at the facility until approximately 2:45 a.m. to cool the affected area and ventilate the building.
All fire units cleared the scene and returned to service at approximately 3:45 a.m.
No injuries were reported.
Butler/Wilmington Fire Chief Ron Mausteller said approximately 25 to 30 firefighters assisted with the response.
A damage estimate was not immediately available.
The Butler/Wilmington Fire Territory was assisted by departments from Ashley, Auburn, Concord Township, Hamilton, Waterloo and Edgerton, Ohio.
The Angola Fire Department provided standby coverage at the Butler station while other crews responded to the industrial fire.
