(ANGOLA) - Construction continues on a $17.5 million project extending Angola municipal water and wastewater service to Pokagon State Park and the Potawatomi Inn.

In his June newsletter message, Mayor Dave Martin explained that the project began after the State of Indiana approached the City of Angola about providing municipal utility service to the park. The state agreed to fund the infrastructure improvements needed to make the project possible.

Although the overall project is not expected to be completed until 2027, the Potawatomi Inn is already receiving Angola municipal water service. Construction activity remains visible along State Road 127 north of the city.

Martin also used the newsletter to highlight Angola's water system. The city's water is drawn from a deep underground aquifer and undergoes aeration, filtration and softening before reaching customers.

The mayor encouraged residents who use home water softeners to consider bypassing them, noting that Angola's water is already softened to an ideal level. Reducing the use of residential softeners can save homeowners money while decreasing salt discharged into the city's wastewater system.

Martin said next month's newsletter will focus on how Angola treats wastewater before it is returned to the environment.
