(LAGRANGE COUNTY) - A 16-year-old who went missing Sunday evening in Witmer Lake has been recovered.
Officials say the teen was last seen jumping from a boat into the lake without a life jacket.
The search began Sunday evening and later shifted from a rescue operation to a recovery effort. Multiple agencies assisted in the search, including Indiana Conservation Officers, the Indiana State Police, local fire departments and the Steuben County Dive Team.
The teen's body was recovered by Indiana Department of Natural Resources divers approximately three hours after he disappeared.
According to the DNR, Witmer Lake has a maximum depth of 54 feet. Officials said the area where the teen went missing was about 20 feet deep.
The teen's name has not been released. Authorities say family members have been notified.
