(COLDWATER) - The National Weather Service has confirmed an EF-0 tornado touched down in Branch County during early morning storms Wednesday, with damage reported south and southeast of Coldwater.

Survey crews found a destroyed barn on Sanford Road, structural damage along South Angola Road, and a roof torn off a building at Carleton Equipment on East Fenn Road. Numerous trees and power lines were also knocked down, leaving more than a thousand Consumers Energy customers without power.

The Branch County tornado was part of a larger system that produced seven confirmed tornadoes across Michigan.

Two of those began in Allegan County, including an EF-0 and an EF-1, with the stronger storm tracking from near Otsego into Barry County before lifting near Hickory Corners.

Additional tornadoes were confirmed in Montcalm, Shiawassee, Saginaw, Washtenaw and Wayne counties.

All of the Branch County damage has been rated EF-0, with estimated winds between 65 and 85 miles per hour, while survey work continues across the state.
