(FORT WAYNE) - The Fort Wayne Zoo will open its 2026 season Friday, April 24, with a full day of activities and several new additions.

Opening day festivities begin at 9 a.m. in the Entrance Plaza, featuring musical performances and a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

The zoo will then operate daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. through October 31.

This season includes several new animals, including baby Sumatran orangutan "Raya," harbor seal "Bubba," and a reticulated python named "Miki," along with multiple bird species and other additions. Zoo officials say more animals -- including a wildebeest, California sea lion and zebra -- are expected later in the season.

New attractions include "Fun Fridays," offering extended hours and discounted admission on select summer dates, and a new electric train, replacing the zoo's diesel engine after more than 60 years of service.

Zoo leaders say the new season continues their focus on family experiences and wildlife education in the community.
