(ANGOLA) - A Trine University student is once again on top at the virtual Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
Wyatt Burton, a member of Trine's esports team, won the Collegiate iRacing League 500 for the second straight year. The race was held Feb. 26 on a virtual version of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
The computer science and information technology major from Edinburgh, Indiana, has now won both editions of the event.
Unlike last year's close finish, Burton pulled away this time, finishing more than four seconds ahead of the field. He also led the most laps and posted the fastest lap of the race.
Burton credits his success to experience on the track and a strong understanding of race strategy, including drafting and fuel management.
The win adds to a strong season for Burton. A victory March 5 in the Birthday Boy Grand Prix moved him into first place in the NAPA Longland Corp Formula College series, which features more than 30 drivers competing on a mix of oval, street and road courses.
The 12-race season is currently at its halfway point.
