(MOORESVILLE) - An Indiana airman is among six U.S. service members killed in a military aircraft crash in Iraq.

The U.S. Department of Defense says Captain Seth R. Koval, 38, of Mooresville, died Thursday when a refueling aircraft went down during operations in the region.

Koval's family confirmed his death in a social media post, describing him as a devoted husband, father and airman who loved serving his country.

U.S. Central Command says the aircraft was operating in friendly airspace while supporting operations against Iran when an incident involving another aircraft occurred. Officials say the second aircraft landed safely.

The other service members killed in the crash include two men from Ohio, a woman from Washington and a pilot from Alabama.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
