(ANGOLA) - Steuben County Sheriff's Office Detective First Sgt. Chris Emerick has formally filed his candidacy for Steuben County sheriff, seeking the Republican nomination.

Emerick is a veteran law enforcement officer with nearly 30 years of experience and currently serves as a detective first sergeant with the Sheriff's Office. He said his campaign is focused on leadership, accountability, fiscal responsibility and community-oriented public safety.

A U.S. Marine Corps veteran, Emerick moved to Steuben County after his military service and began his law enforcement career with the Ashley Police Department before joining the Steuben County Sheriff's Office. He has led investigations into some of the county's most serious crimes, including homicide and sexual assault cases.

Emerick is an honors graduate of the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy and a graduate of the FBI National Academy. Since 2007, he has led the Steuben County Special Response Tactical Team and received the Medal of Valor in 2023.

He also serves on multiple county boards and response teams related to sexual assault, child protection, school safety and substance abuse prevention. In addition, Emerick has served as town marshal for the Clear Lake Police Department since 2017 and has been an adjunct professor at Trine University since 2007.

Emerick lives in Angola with his wife and family. He will face Chief Deputy Mike Meeks in the Republican primary on May 5. More information about his campaign is available at emerickforsheriff.com.
