(ANGOLA) - The National Weather Service has released final snowfall totals from the Jan. 24-25 winter storm, with Steuben, DeKalb, and LaGrange counties receiving moderate accumulations compared to areas farther south and east.
Steuben County
Snowfall totals in Steuben County generally ranged between 5 and 6 inches, with the highest reports coming from the county's western and northern areas:
- Metz: 6.0 inches
- Hudson: 5.9 inches
- Angola: 3.7 inches
- *Hamilton: 5. 3 inches
(*Hamilton is located in both Steuben and DeKalb Counties. The snow collection site is within the Steuben County boundary.)
DeKalb County
DeKalb County saw more variability, with totals ranging from the mid-5-inch range to more than 8 inches:
- Garrett: 8.5 inches
- Waterloo: 7.0 inches
- Ashley: 5.5 inches
LaGrange County
LaGrange County reported lighter snowfall totals compared to neighboring counties:
- Howe: 4.5 inches
Elsewhere in Northeast Indiana
Several surrounding counties recorded heavier snowfall, including Jay County (10 inches in Portland), Whitley County (9.5 inches in Tri-Lakes), and Allen County, where snowfall totals ranged from about 5 to nearly 10 inches across the Fort Wayne area.
The National Weather Service noted that snowfall observations are gathered from a variety of sources, including trained volunteers.
"Observations are collected from a variety of sources with varying equipment and exposures," the agency stated. "Not all data listed are considered official."
