(INDIANAPOLIS) - The Indiana House Republicans on Tuesday reiterated their priorities for the 2026 legislative session, focusing on housing costs, energy prices, and regulatory policy.

House Speaker Todd Huston, R-Fishers, said affordability and reduced regulation will be central themes of the caucus's agenda. He said lawmakers are responding to concerns about rising living costs across the state.

Housing policy is one of the areas lawmakers highlighted. State Rep. Doug Miller, R-Elkhart, is sponsoring legislation aimed at increasing housing supply. According to Miller, the proposal would reduce certain local regulations, including design standards and fees, that he says can contribute to higher housing costs.

Energy and utility costs are also among the caucus's stated priorities. State Rep. Alaina Shonkwiler, R-Noblesville, a member of the House Utilities, Energy and Telecommunications Committee, has authored legislation that would add performance-based accountability measures for utility companies.

Shonkwiler said the proposal is intended to increase oversight of utilities, with a focus on cost control and system reliability.

Details on the bills and other legislative priorities are expected to be discussed further as the session continues.
