FORT WAYNE – An accident involving 10 children took place Monday, August 8 just after 7 p.m. at the intersection of U.S. 27 and Hoagland Road.
After a preliminary investigation by the Indiana State Police Senior Trooper Bryan Rumple said a 2002 Dodge Dakota pickup truck driven by David Mourey 65 of Hoagland, Indiana was traveling eastbound of Hoagland Road when he crossed the intersection at U.S. 27 and failed to yield the right of way to a Ford passenger van traveling northbound on U.S. 27.
The collision ripped the pickup truck completely in half.
The Ford passenger van driven by Holly Mohr 41 of Auburn had 10 children, aged from 6 months to 15 years old, inside the van.
There were several entrapped occupants in the van, which had to be rescued by the Hoagland/Poe/Southwest Fire Departments.
Mohr, along with all 10 children inside the van, were properly restrained and only minor injuries were reported.
All 12 individuals involved in the accident were taken to a nearby hospital for further medical treatment.
The Indiana State Police stated alcohol is believed to have been a factor for Mourey.
Mourey was stated to have been less than cooperative with troopers investigating at the scene.
The press release also noted that the portion of the investigation related to alcohol impairment will be turned over to the Allen County Prosecutor for review of submitted evidence and determination of possible charges, which would be filed later.
Indiana State Troopers were assisted at the scene by the Allen County Police Department, Hoagland/Poe/Southwest Fire Department(s) and EMS personnel, New Haven EMS and Parker’s Wrecker Service.
