HOUSE PASSES BILL TIGHTENING DEFINITION OF CONSENT IN INDIANA RAPE LAW
Tuesday, January 25, 2022

INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana House has voted overwhelmingly to close a couple of loopholes in the legal definition of rape.

The bill addresses what proponents say is the rare, but not unheard-of circumstance where someone fools a woman into believing the person making sexual contact is her usual sexual partner. Purdue University reportedly had one such incident.

The bill adds that situation to the defiinition of rape. The bill also clarifies that a woman can make clear through words or actions that she doesn’t consent.

The House passed the bill 84-3. The Senate will consider the bill next month.
